The annual pet adoptathon featured celebrity participants from the companies of Sweeney Todd, Kimberly Akimbo, Hadestown, and more.

Broadway Barks, the annual pet adoption event co-founded by Bernadette Peters and the late Mary Tyler Moore, returned to Shubert Alley July 8.

Tony winner Peters and satirist Randy Rainbow hosted the 25th annual dog and cat adoption event, which featured adoptable animals from over 20 NYC-area adoption agencies and rescue groups along with a host of non-adoptable Broadway favorites. Broadway Cares produced the afternoon.

Broadway Barks featured adoptable animals from the following New York City area animal shelters and adoption agencies: 1 Love 4 Animals, Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniels Rescue Adopt A Boxer Rescue, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Animal Care Centers of NYC, Anjellicle Cats Rescue, Best Friends Animal Society, Bideawee, Bobbi and the Strays, City Critters, Francis’s Friends, Hearts and Bones Rescue, Husky House, Linda’s Cat Assistance, Little Shelter, Long Island Bulldog Rescue, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League, Muddy Paws Rescue, Pet ResQ Inc., SaveKitty Foundation, Second Chance Rescue, SPCA of Westchester, and Urban Cat League.

Proceeds from the free event benefit the participating shelters and rescue groups. Illustrator and author Hilary Knight designed this year’s poster art.
