Peter Jöback Is Jean Valjean in London's Les Misérables Starting February 13

The London production of Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre welcomes Swedish star Peter Jöback to the leading role of Jean Valjean February 13.

Jöback, who will continue through March 9, succeeds Killian Donnelly, who played his final performance February 10. Jöback returns to the West End, having previously played Chris in Miss Saigon and Michael in The Witches of Eastwick, both at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, and the title role in The Phantom of the Opera, both in London and on Broadway.

As earlier reported, Dutch actor Milan van Waardenburg will take on the role of the fugitive protagonist beginning March 11. Van Waardenburg will be making his West End debut, having recently led the Netherlands and Belgium production of Les Misérables. His previous theatre credits include Frozen in Germany, Anastasia in Germany and The Netherlands, and Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Tanz der Vampire, both on tour across Germany.

The London company also currently stars Stewart Clarke as Javert, Katie Hall as Fantine, Will Callan as Marius, Amena El-Kindy as Éponine, Lulu-Mae Pears as Cosette, Luke Kempner as Thénardier, Claire Machin as Madame Thénardier, and Djavan van de Fliert as Enjolras.

The cast is completed by Annabelle Aquino, Hazel Baldwin, Brad Barnley, Michael Baxter, Emily Olive Boyd, Rosy Church, Ben Culleton, Matthew Dale, Matt Dempsey, Sophie-May Feek, Matt Hayden, Tom Hext, Christopher Jacobsen, Jessica Johns-Parsons, Yazmin King, Sam Kipling, Anouk van Laake, Harry Lake, Sarah Lark, Ellie Ann Lowe, Ben Oatley, Adam Pearce, Jordan Simon Pollard, Jonathan Stevens, Phoebe Williams, and Ollie Wray.

This production officially opened January 16, 2020, following previews that began December 18, 2019.

Les Misérables is written by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and is based on the novel by Victor Hugo. It has music by Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer and original French text by Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel, additional material by James Fenton, and an adaptation by Trevor Nunn and John Caird.

Directed by James Powell and Laurence Connor, the Cameron Mackintosh production also features orchestrations by Stephen Metcalfe, Christopher Jahnke, and Stephen Brooker with original orchestrations by John Cameron, designs by Matt Kinley (inspired by the paintings of Victor Hugo), costumes by Andreane Neofitou and Christine Rowland, lighting by Paule Constable, sound by Mick Potter, musical staging by Michael Ashcroft and Geoffrey Garratt, and music supervision by Stephen Brooker and Alfonso Casado Trigo.
