Oscar at The Crown, the Literary, Real Housewives-Fueled Club Show, Will Return to Brooklyn | Playbill

Off-Broadway News Oscar at The Crown, the Literary, Real Housewives-Fueled Club Show, Will Return to Brooklyn The immersive experience inspired by the life of Oscar Wilde hails from the queer theatre collective The Neon Coven.

What do Lady Bracknell, Sonja Morgan, Stephanie J. Block, and Julie Cooper (yes, Mischa Barton’s mom on The O.C.) have in common?

All four are (rightfully) held in high esteem in the rousing OSCAR at The Crown. The immersive club musical, having played a three-week limited engagement at 3 Dollar Bill earlier this year, will return to the Brooklyn venue for an open-ended run beginning May 10.

The theatrical experience, both celebrating and questioning the legacy of Oscar Wilde and the evolution of pop culture, comes from the minds of the queer performance collective The Neon Coven’s three co-founders: creator and star Mark Mauriello, composer and choreographer Andrew Barret Cox, and director Shira Milikowsky.

Set in a dystopian future, OSCAR at The Crown invites audiences into a secret bunker that has become home to queer castaways in the midst of a fascist regime. With limited connections to the culture they crave, the group routinely tells the story of queer icon Oscar Wilde (Mauriello), infusing their ritual with remnants of the art they once cherished above-ground—namely, The Real Housewives. With the arrival of a new addition to the bunker, however, the exiles' blind faith in a genius but deeply flawed man is challenged.

Performances will run Fridays, Saturday, and Sundays, with opening night set for May 26. Tickets are currently on sale through June 2, with details on further casting and additional dates to come.
