San Diego's The Old Globe has announced the full cast and creative team for Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph's King James. The production will play the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre at the Globe's Conrad Prebys Theatre Center March 9-31, 2024, with an official opening set for March 14.

The cast will be led by Joshua Echebiri (Partnership) as Shawn and Caleb Foote (The Kids Are Alright) as Matt. Understudies Danny Adams and Kevin Alicea-Minor round out the company. Casting is by Caparelliotis Casting

Justin Emeka will direct the production. The creative team also includes scenic designer Lawrence E. Moten III, costume designer Sarita Fellows, lighting designer Abigail Hoke-Brady, sound designer Lindsay Jones, and production stage manager Sam Allen.

NBA legend LeBron James' illustrious career is the backdrop for King James, which explores a developing friendship between Shawn, who is Black, and Matt, who is white. The two do not share many similarities, but they do unite on their love for the Cleveland Cavaliers. King James highlights the profound connections that sports can cultivate.

“Rajiv Joseph’s play is a beautifully written study of friendship, a subject that’s explored all too rarely on the stage,” The Old Globe's Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein said in a statement. “It’s also about the way that sports transcend differences and bring people together regardless of their backgrounds. The brilliant and spectacular career of LeBron James and the gorgeous game of basketball hover in the background and give shape to this funny and touching story of two guys in Cleveland and the ups and downs of their lives. In the hands of the wonderful director Justin Emeka, making his Globe debut, King James is a memorable and completely beguiling evening of theatre.”
