International News Mrs. Doubtfire Will Play London's West End

Based on the 1993 movie, the musical from the writing team behind Something Rotten! played a Broadway run last season.

Hold on to your teacups: Mrs. Doubtfire has planned a West End bow, beginning performances May 12, 2023, at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London. Opening night will be June 22.

The West End run follows the musical's U.K. premiere at Manchester Opera House earlier this year. The show's Broadway premiere opened December 5, 2021, with Rob McClure in the title role, and played through May 29, 2022, at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Taking the lead for the West End premiere will be Avenue Q alum Gabriel Hick, co-starring with Carla Dixon Hernandez (Matilda the Musical) as Lydia Hillard, Cameron Blakely (The Addams Family) as Frank Hillard, Marcus Collins (Kinky Boots) as Andre, and Ian Talbot (Hairspray) as Mr. Jolly. The company will also include Joshua Dever, Samuel Wilson-Freeman, Maria Garrett, Kiera Haynes, Adam Lyons, Lisa Mathieson, Ellie Mitchell, Matt Overfield, Tom Scanlon, Vicki Lee Taylor, Rebecca Donnelly, Amy Everett, and Paulo Teixeira. Additional casting is to be announced.

Mrs. Doubtfire, based on the 1993 movie about an out-of-work father who disguises himself as a British nanny to spend more time with his children, features a score by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick and a book co-written by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell (the writing team behind Something Rotten!). Four-time tony winner Jerry Zaks directs, with choreography by Lorin Latarro and music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Ethan Popp. As on Broadway, the production will include scenic design by David Korins, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Philip S. Rosenberg, sound design by Brian Ronan, hair and wig design by David Brian Brown, and make-up and prosthetics design by Tommy Kurzman. The London production is cast by Stuart Burt, with children's casting by Verity Naughton.

Kevin McCollum and Jamie Wilson, who produced the musical's Broadway premiere, are producing the West End bow as well, by special arrangement with Buena Vista Theatrical.
