Mike Birbiglia on Playing Taylor Swift's Nightmare Son | Playbill

Video Mike Birbiglia on Playing Taylor Swift's Nightmare Son

He may be starring in his own solo show on Broadway, but it was his appearance in the "Anti-Hero" video that he calls "my dream come true."

Comedian Mike Birbiglia stopped by The Late Show to talk about his latest Broadway solo show The Old Man & the Pool, but host Stephen Colbert only wanted to know one thing...how in the world did Birbiglia end up in a Taylor Swift video?

"I thought maybe I was just being catfished," says Birbiglia of the text he got from an unknown phone number claiming to be Taylor Swift. The two had previously met through a mutual friend, then Swift reached out to Birbiglia with her video script for "Anti-Hero." He thought the script was great; "so, count me in, Taylor Swift or catfish person," he jokes.

The Old Man & the Pool is Birbiglia's fifth solo show, a theatrical combination of his stand-up comedy and long-form storytelling. It's the second production he's brought to Broadway following 2018's The New One. Long-time collaborator Seth Barrish directs the work, written and performed by Birbiglia, with contributions from story consultant Ira Glass (This American Life).

Currently in previews at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, The Old Man & the Pool opens November 13.
