Matthew Morrison has withdrawn from the upcoming Hollywood Bowl presentation of Sondheim on Sondheim, citing a “professional scheduling conflict.” The Tony nominee and Glee favorite was initially announced to take part in the July 23 one-night-only performance alongside a cast that included Jonathan Groff, Vanessa Williams, and Carmen Cusack.
Instead of a replacement artist assuming the role, the remaining cast members will cover the tracks and numbers Morrison has been set to perform in the musical retrospective of Stephen Sondheim's career and legacy.
In addition to Groff, Williams (who appeared in the musical's Broadway premiere), and Cusack, the cast at the Hollywood Bowl will feature Sarah Uriarte Berry, Phillip Boykin, Lewis Cleale, Claybourne Elder, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Tony winner Ruthie Ann Miles, and Solea Pfeiffer.
The performance will feature the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra—conducted by Gustavo Dudamel—and the Youth Orchestra Los Angeles.
