Tony-winning playwright Matthew López (The Inheritance, Some Like It Hot) will pen the screenplay for a follow-up to his queer rom-com Red, White & Royal Blue, according to a report in Deadline. The initial film, also featuring a screenplay by López, was a big hit for Amazon, released last year.
López co-wrote the script to Red, White & Royal Blue with Ted Malawer, but he will collaborate on the sequel with Casey McQuiston, the author behind the initial film's source material.
And some familiar faces will be on screen, with both Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez set to reprise their performances. Perez stars as Alex, son of the President of the United States; opposite Galitzine as British Prince Henry. In Red, White & Royal Blue, the duo's public feud is affecting U.S.-British relations until a romance is sparked, along with a whole new problem. No word yet on what the plot will be for the sequel.
Red, White & Royal Blue also featured performances from stage vets Uma Thurman, Stephen Fry, and Sharon D Clarke.
Berlanti Schechter Films is producing, along with López. McQuiston is serving as executive producer.
