Manhattan Theatre Club has named Kwame Kwei-Armah its new artistic advisor, succeeding Ruben Santiago-Hudson beginning with the 2023-2024 season. Santiago-Hudson, who has been in the role since 2020, will remain part of MTC Artistic Director Lynne Meadow's artistic consulting team, which also includes director Daniel Sullivan.

The appointment comes on the heels of Kwei-Armah's Broadway directorial debut on this season's The Collaboration, a Manhattan Theatre Club production.

Kwei-Armah is currently artistic director of London's Young Vic (where The Collaboration originated), a position he's held since 2018, and will remain in that role as well. He served as artistic director of Baltimore Center Stage from 2011 to 2018, and has also directed at The Public Theater, Signature Theatre, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Donmar Warehouse, and Birmingham Repertory Theatre, among other companies.

"I’m so excited to continue working with Kwame, having had a joyful experience with him at MTC this past season," says Meadow. "Kwame has been a great leader at Baltimore Center Stage and London’s Young Vic in addition to his successful writing and directing career. Working with Kwame on the MTC/Young Vic production of The Collaboration, I admired his expansive creativity, charisma, and enormous talent."

"My joy at the prospect of dancing with Lynne and the artistic team at MTC can barely be contained," adds Kwei-Armah. "This is a theatre that has much to teach me. And I’m here for it."
