Before Jagged Little Pill lands on Broadway, take a listen to a song from the Alanis Morissette musical, performed by the world-premiere cast, above. The track, "All I Really Want" (Morissette's third single from her seminal 1995 album), explores the often-tumultuous relationship between mother Mary Jane (Elizabeth Stanley) and daughter Frankie (Celia Gooding).
As previously reported, the musical is set to open at a Broadway theatre to be announced in the fall; no word yet on casting for the New York bow. Atlantic Records will partner with the musical to release the Original Broadway Cast Recording.
In addition to Stanley and Gooding, the premiere production at Massachusetts' American Repertory Theater included Sean Allan Krill, Derek Klena, and Lauren Patten.
The show, featuring a book by Oscar winner Diablo Cody, uses Morissette and Glen Ballard's discography to tell an original, contemporary story about complicated family dynamics, gender identity, addiction, and more. Diane Paulus directs. Tom Kitt serves as music supervisor; his orchestrations can be heard on the newly released track.
