Film & TV News Laurie Metcalf Joins Season 2 of HBO's Hacks

The Jean Smart-led series' debut season won three Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes Awards.

Tony winner Laurie Metcalf has joined the cast of the HBO Max comedy-drama Hacks. The show's debut season was met with critical acclaim, having won three Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globes Awards. 

According to Deadline, Metcalf, Martha Kelly (Marriage Story), Ming-Na Wen (The Book of Boba Fett), and comedian Margaret Cho will be joining the second season as recurring guest characters. Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, and Carl Clemons-Hopkins return as series leads. 

Created by Emmy winners Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky, Hacks tells the story of a Las Vegas comedian and her battle to stay relevant among an evolving comedy scene. Information about Metcalf's upcoming role has not been disclosed.

    Metcalf starred in numerous Off-Broadway productions before making her Broadway debut in 1995, playing Elly in My Thing of Love. She went on to star in the original Broadway cast of David Mamet's November, a revival of Brighton Beach Memoirs, and A Doll's House, Part 2

    She also played Martha in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? prior to its premature (and pre-opening night) end due to the COVID-19 Broadway shutdown. Metcalf's television roles include starring in the sitcoms Roseanne and Norm. She can currently be seen making a brief appearance in Hulu's The Dropout.
