Children's & Family Emmy winner Kit Connor (Heartstopper) and Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler (María in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story) will star in a new Broadway production of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in the fall at a theatre to be announced.

Tony winner Sam Gold will direct Romeo + Juliet, which will feature music by Grammy winner Jack Antonoff and movement by Tony winner Sonya Tayeh.

Director Gold said in a statement, “With the presidential election coming up in November, I felt like making a show this fall that celebrates youth and hope, and unleashes the anger young people feel about the world they are inheriting."

Press notes for the revival describe the classic tragedy as such: "Left to their own devices in their parents’ world of violent ends, an impulsive pair of star-crossed lovers hurtle towards their inescapable fate. The intoxicating high of passion quickly descends into a brutal chaos that can only end one way."

The upcoming production will mark the Broadway debuts of Connor, Zegler, and Antonoff, who won his third consecutive Grammy Award for Producer of the Year in February. Connor's Heartstopper co-star, Joe Locke, is currently making his Broadway debut in the hit revival of Sweeney Todd.

Theatre, performance dates, design team, and additional casting will be announced at a later time.

Romeo + Juliet will be produced on Broadway by Seaview. 101 Productions, Ltd. will serve as general manager. Casting is by Taylor Williams.

A separate West End staging of Romeo & Juliet will feature Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet opposite Tom Holland as Romeo in a new version directed by Jamie Lloyd.
