Written in Shakespearean-style verse by Mike Bartlett and directed by Rupert Goold, King Charles III transferred to New York following an acclaimed London run. It began previews Oct. 10, 2015, and officially opened Nov. 1.
"The Queen is dead," press notes state. "After a lifetime of waiting, Prince Charles ascends the throne. A future of power lies before him...but how to rule?" The plot imagines a clash between the newly ascended King Charles and Parliament over a measure to restrict freedom of the press that divides the nation—and the Royal Family.
