“My Broadway debut, at age 27, was March 7, 1973 and I won a Tony Award on March 25,” Lithgow recalls on the red carpet. “I must have the record for the quickest award following a Broadway debut in history.”
That year, Lithgow received the Best Featured Actor in a Play Tony for The Changing Room; in 2002 he won for Best Lead Actor in a Musical for Sweet Smell of Success. He has also been nominated four other times.
"I didn't feel right being in either category," the non-binary Broadway performer tells Playbill.
Broadway's biggest honors will be handed out June 11 at the United Palace Theatre in New York City.
The company has been at the helm of Broadway's big night out since 2003.
