Funny Girl's Jared Grimes will host the 2023 Chita Rivera Awards, alongside presenters Chita Rivera, Bebe Neuwirth, Charlotte d'Amboise, John Riddle, Derek Hough, Jerry Mitchell, Tony Yazbeck, and more. The awards celebrate dance and recognize choreographic excellence and achievement in honor of their namesake, Tony winner Chita Rivera, who has originated some of Broadway's best known roles, such as Anita in West Side Story and Velma in Chicago.

Broadway, Off-Broadway, and film each have a separate nominating committee that oversees the nominations. Broadway nominations are also passed through an award committee which will determine the final nominees. This year is the first year that the Outstanding Dancer in a Broadway Show category will be gender neutral. The category now has twice as many nominees as the former gendered categories.

This year's Chita Rivera Awards will be held on May 22 at the NYU Skirball Center For The Performing Arts. The event is being produced by Joe Lanteri, founder and executive director of the New York City Dance Alliance Foundation, in association with Patricia Watt. It will benefit the NYC Dance Alliance Foundation College Scholarship Program. Since the organization’s founding in 2010, it has awarded $4 million to more than 400 dancers represented in 42 of the most prestigious college dance programs in the country.

Among the nominees of the 2023 Chita Rivera Awards are J. Harrison Ghee, Susan Stroman, Andy Blankenbuehler, Kolton Krouse, and Dylis Croman. To view the full list of nominees, click here. The event will feature performances by A Beautiful Noise: The Neil Diamond Musical; New York, New York; Only Gold; and more.
