How does it feel to call yourself a Tony nominee? For the 2023 Tony nominees, it looks like it feels pretty darn good.
Playbill asked this year's nominated artists to introduce themselves. What initially seemed like a simple prompt led to a variety of reactions: from Amber Ruffin's (Some Like It Hot) chuckle of disbelief, to Lee Daniels(Ain't No Mo') proclaiming, "I'm finally a Tony nominee," to Betsy Wolfe (& Juliet) marveling, "I've never said that before!"
Check back with Playbill for the latest news and analysis around Broadway's top honors, all the way to the big night. The Tony Awards were originally slated to broadcast June 11 as a two-part special with the pre-show kicking off on Pluto TV and the main awards ceremony on CBS. But due to the current strike by the Writers Guild of America, the details are unclear as what this year's ceremony will look like. As of May 15, the WGA announced that they would not picket the Tonys, so the show will go on. With June 11 less than a month away, further details on this year's Tony Awards celebration should be revealed imminently. Playbill will continue reporting as soon as more is known.
