The Boston Theater Critics Association has revealed the nominees for the 36th Annual Elliot Norton Awards, to be held May 21 at the Huntington Avenue Theatre. The annual awards celebrate the Boston area theatre community.
Leading the list of nominees with seven nods was the Huntington's production of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s Merrily We Roll Along. The show was nominated for Outstanding Musical Production, Maria Friedman for her direction, as well as Mark Unger, Aimee Doherty, and Eden Espinosa for their performances.
Also included in the Outstanding Musical Production category were Wheelock Family Theatre's In The Heights, which received five nominations, and American Repertory Theater's production of Arrabal, which received a total of three nominations, including one to director and choreographer Sergio Trujillo (On Your Feet!, A Bronx Tale).
Company One Theatre’s Hype Man: a break beat play also received five nominations, including Outstanding Production in a Small Theatre, Outstanding New Script going to Idris Goodwin, and Outstanding Direction to Shawn LaCount.
