Grounded and Williams' The Night of the Iguana Complete Alley Theatre's New Season | Playbill

News Grounded and Williams' The Night of the Iguana Complete Alley Theatre's New Season Houston's Alley Theatre has announced the final two shows completing its 2015-16 season, the first in its newly renovated performing space. Joining the previously announced line-up are Tennessee Williams' The Night of the Iguana and George Brant’s Grounded, recently performed by Anne Hathaway in a critically acclaimed Off-Broadway run.

"[It is] exciting to add to our season the ‘spellbinding,’ ‘ripped from the headlines,’ Grounded, which joins the season in a tour de force production directed by Jackson Gay," said artistic director Gregory Boyd in a press statement. The solo show about a female fighter-pilot's struggle to return to civilian life, is scheduled to start performances March 25, 2016.

The Night of the Iguana, to be directed by Michael Wilson, will begin performances March 4, 2016. The play follows defrocked priest Lawrence Shannon on his escape along the Mexican coast, leading a bus-load of middle-aged church ladies. The Tony-winning work was last seen on Broadway in 1996.

"It’s thrilling for us to return to Tennessee Williams in the inaugural season of our renovated theatre” said Boyd. “And The Night of the Iguana is vintage Williams – full of the rich characterization, vivid language and the startling theatrical ideas of this American master.

As previously reported, the Alley's new season kicks off in October with Richard Bean's One Man, Two Guvnors. The slate will also include the Tony-winning history play All the Way, Jennifer Haley's chilling whodunit The Nether, and Tom Stoppard's Travesties.
