The new Broadway musical Shucked, recently nominated for nine 2023 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, released its original cast recording digitally May 5 on the Sony Masterworks Broadway label. Watch the company in the recording studio sing "Corn (Reprise)" in the music video above.
The production continues its run at the Nederlander Theatre; the cast recording will be released on CD June 9.
The new musical features a book by Tony winner Robert Horn (Tootsie, 13) and a score by Grammy-winning Nashville-based duo Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally. Three-time Tony winner Jack O'Brien (Hairspray, The Front Page) is at the helm.
The "farm-to-fable" musical takes place in Cobb County where the population is small and the corn fields are endless, following its residents as they work to fix their failing corn crop. But don't pay too much attention to that—it's come for the story, stay for the corn puns.
The production stars Caroline Innerbichler as Maizy, Alex Newell as Lulu, John Behlmann as Gordy, Kevin Cahoon as Peanut, Andrew Durand as Beau, Ashley D. Kelley as Storyteller 1, and Grey Henson as Storyteller 2.
They're joined by an ensemble comprising Jimmy Brewer, Audrey Cardwell, Dwayne Clark, Rheaume Crenshaw, Jaygee Macapugay, Scott Stangland, Yasmeen Sulieman, and Quinn VanAntwerp, rounded out by swings Miki Abraham, Ken Wulf Clark, Traci Elaine Lee, and Alan Wiggins.
