Directed by the late Harold Prince, the original production of The Phantom of the Opera premiered in London's West End in 1986, transferring to Broadway in 1988. The Broadway production, currently playing the Majestic Theatre, is the longest-running production in Broadway history. Based on the Gaston Leroux novel, the work centers on a mysterious Phantom who lives beneath the Paris Opera House and the young singer who becomes his obsession. Lloyd Webber's score introduced such favorites as "The Music of the Night," "All I Ask of You," and "Think of Me."
The Phantom of the Opera was also seen in Australia this past March at Sydney Harbor's Handa Opera. The outdoor production featured a floating stage, pyrotechnics, themed pop-up bars and restaurants, and fireworks. Take a look at that production here.
