Gabriel Kahane's Magnificent Bird/Book of Travelers has extended its upcoming Off-Broadway run before performances even begin. Set to start previews September 24, the repertory run will now continue through October 13. The production was previously scheduled to play its final performance October 6.
Annie Tippe is directing with Kahane performing his own work, both titles of concept albums. Magnificent Bird chronicles a year Kahane spent completely off-line, attempting to write one new song a day. Book of Travelers, Kahane's 2018 album, tracks the musician's 9,000 mile, off-the-grid railway trip in the days following the 2016 presidential election.
"Red Letter Days," one of the songs from Magnificent Bird, has already been released on streaming networks.
The repertory production will feature scenography by AMP (featuring Oscar Escobedo), costume design by Wendy Yang, lighting design by Christopher Bowser, and sound design by Garth McAleavey. Elizabeth Emanuel will stage manage.
