Stephen Sondheim and James Goldman’s Broadway fable Follies is staged in a new production at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis September 7-October 2. Rob Ruggiero directs.
The cast is led by Tony Award nominees Christiane Noll (Sally) and Emily Skinner (Phyllis), alongside Bradley Dean (Ben) and Adam Heller (Buddy).
Joining them are Tony nominee Nancy Opel (Carlotta), Dorothy Stanley (Emily), Joneal Joplin (Dimitri Weismann), Zoe Vonder Haar (Hattie), Ron Himes (Max), E. Faye Butler (Stella Deems), Amra-Faye Wright (Solange), James Young (Theodore), Carol Skarimbas (Heidi), Rubert DuSold (Roscoe), Sarah Quinn Taylor (Young Sally), Kathryn Boswell (Young Phyllis), Michael Williams (Young Ben) and Cody Williams (Young Buddy).
The Follies ensemble includes Kristen Smith Davis, Gaby Gamache, Luke Hamilton, Julie Hansen, Dan Horn, Adrienne Howard, Drew Nellessen, Brenna Noble, Kara Overlien and Brett Thiele.
The creative team includes Brad Haak (music supervisor), Luke Cantarella (scenic designer), John Lasiter (lighting designer), Amy Clark (costume designer), Randy Hansen (sound designer), Ralph Perkins (choreographer), Valerie Maze (conductor) and McCorkle Casting Ltd.
The classic includes such songs as “I’m Still Here,” “Losing My Mind,” “Broadway Baby” and “In Buddy’s Eyes.” According to The Rep, “The former stars of the Weismann Follies have gathered one last time to relive their faded glories. Past and present collide as their memories spring to life. Filled with an exuberant score and poignant observations of love and memory, it’s an unforgettable musical experience.”
