Music heard in Broadway’s The Testament of Mary, which, in 2013, saw Fiona Shaw as the mother of Jesus Christ, will be featured on the upcoming album Testament. The recording, out January 25, 2019, from Heresy Records, will include Mel Mercier’s compositions for the Deborah Warner-helmed staging, as well as cuts from the National Theatre’s The Powerbook, the Royal Court’s Fewer Emergencies, and more.

Mercier earned a Tony nomination in 2013 for his sound design for the solo show. His additional credits include the Old Vic’s Glenda Jackson-led King Lear, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, and The Shadow of a Gunman at Dublin’s Abbey Theatre.

“The tracks on Testament satisfy my long-held desire to find a way to document some of my theatre music,” says Mercier. “Recomposing and remixing from the pre-existing theatre soundscapes liberates the sounds from the original productions and gives them a second, new life, solely as a listening experience, as music alone.”
