Evelyn Waugh's novel Brideshead Revisited is to be revisited for its first-ever large-scale stage production, adapted by playwright Bryony Lavery. It will begin performances April 22 at York Theatre Royal prior to an official opening April 26 and then launch a major U.K. tour.

Directed by York Theatre Royal artistic director Damian Cruden, it will tour under the auspices of English Touring Theatre. Set in 1943, it revolves around Charles Ryder, who confronts memories of his first youthful encounter with Brideshead Castle and its assortment of eccentric inhabitants, including Lord and Lady Marchmain and their offspring, Julia, Cordelia, Bridey and Sebastian Flyte.

The production will feature Brian Ferguson as Charles with Christopher Simpson as Sebastian and Rosie Hilal as Julia. Also in the cast are Nick Blakeley, Caroline Harker, Samantha Lawson, Kiran Sonia Sawar, Paul Shelley and Shuna Snow.

Lavery's plays include Thursday (also presented by English Touring Theatre), Treasure Island and Frozen (both seen at the National Theatre), Queen Coal, The Believers, Beautiful Burnout, Last Easter, Stockholm, Yikes, A Wedding Story, Ophelia, Nothing Compares To You and Flight.

The production is designed by Sara Perks with lighting by Richard Jones, sound by Yvonne Madin and score composed by Chris Madin.
