The Educational Theatre Association has revealed new board leadership, increasing its diversity following a vote in support of the organization's focus on racial equity.

Theatre Macon Executive and Artistic Director Richard Frazier will start a two-year term as vice president beginning July 1, after which he will become the group's first Black board president in 2025. The move follows Frazier's earlier work with EdTA as a liaison for the Educational Theatre Foundation's JumpStart Theatre program at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre.

Also newly joining the board are educator and theatre professional Cheryl Williams and longtime EdTA volunteer Jeff Hall.

The vote also saw the approval of two code changes, adding inclusion-focused language to the organization's code of regulations.

The nonprofit Educational Theatre Association works to support theatre teachers, honor student achievement, and expand access to theatre education nationwide. The organization is the home to the International Thespian Society, a honor society for high school-aged theatre students.
