Since the results of the 2024 Election were announced November 6, it's been an emotional time for many, including the theatre community. In response, David Carpenter, Creator and Executive Producer of Dungeons & Dragons The Twenty-Sided Tavern, said that he will offer free tickets to the November 7 performance of the Off-Broadway show.

In a statement on Instagram, Carpenter wrote, "The last 36 hours have been difficult for so many of us. One of the foundational pillars of our show is what we call 'Schitt’s Creek Rules.' In the world of that TV show, there was no discrimination—the writers created and depicted the society they wanted to live in. We do the same thing at The Twenty-Sided Tavern. In our community, there is no homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, or racism."

Carpenter went on to say that he is "opening the doors of our theatre to give our community a place to gather, heal, recharge, celebrate ourselves, and escape for 2 and a half hours (more likely 2:40, depending on re-rolls)." Free tickets to the show will be distributed at the box office at Stage 42, starting an hour before curtain (which is at 7 pm). Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first serve basis.

The Twenty-Sided Tavern is an improvised quest play. Relying on audience participation, each performance is uniquely tailored to decisions made by audience members on their phones using patented software from Gamiotics. Audience members choose which characters will appear each evening, as well as which paths they will take, and which decisions they will make along the journey. The in-mobile-browser platform does not require any special equipment, instead running on audience members' phones. Created by David Andrew Laws, Sarah Reynolds, and David Carpenter, The Twenty Sided Tavern is written by Laws. The game design is by Reynolds.

"The last 36 hours have been difficult for so many of us. One of the foundational pillars of our show is what we call 'Schitt’s Creek Rules.' In the world of that TV show, there was no discrimination—the writers created and depicted the society they wanted to live in. We do the same thing at The Twenty-Sided Tavern. In our community, there is no homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, or racism. By doing this, we’ve created a safe place for you, our audience, to demonstrate that such a place can exist. It’s an idea to strive for and a cause worth fighting for. It is also a refuge to retreat to when we need it. This is why all of us are here as nerds and choose to be part of this community. Because, in escaping to a fantasy world, we can always return and fight to make the real one a better place.

"Tonight, I am opening the doors of our theatre to give our community a place to gather, heal, recharge, celebrate ourselves, and escape for 2 and a half hours (more likely 2:40, depending on re-rolls). Everyone is welcome. We will offer tickets until we are full. If you want to join us tonight at 7 PM, simply go to the box office and say you're here for your Adventurer's Ticket—no more than an hour before the show. Tickets are first come, first served. Come laugh, cry, and play with us."

The show stars co-creators DAGL (Drunk Shakespeare) as Dungeon Master and Sarah Davis Reynolds as Tavern Keeper, in addition to Tyler Nowell Felix (Modern Family) as Fighter, Madelyn Murphy as Mage, and Diego F. Salinas (Drunk Shakespeare) as Rogue. The cast also includes RJ Christian (Parade), R. Alex Murray (Boardwalk Empire), Cassidy Sledge (The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers), and Alex Stompoly (A Christmas Carol).

The production unites Hasbro, Curious Hedgehog, Showpath Entertainment, and Wizards of the Coast to bring the tabletop adventure game to the stage.
