Casting is set for the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat reading of the new musical The Real Kyle McCarren, which will be presented April 24 for an invited audience.
Directed by Telly Leung, the cast will feature two-time Tony nominee Kate Baldwin, Mia Pak, and DeMarius Copes as well as the musical's writers, Andy Roninson and Sean McVerry.
In the new musical, co-writer Roninson sits at the piano to tell the tale of his deceased bandmate and best friend Kyle, who materializes onstage, guitar in hand. With the help of three actors, this 90-minute rock musical celebrates a complicated person and the lives he touched.
Based on Roninson's life, The Real Kyle McCarren was selected for the Rhinebeck Writers Retreat’s Triple R program. The writers received a cold table read in NYC, a residency in Rhinebeck, and this final reading with the revised script and score.

Since its creation in 2011, Rhinebeck Writers Retreat has supported over 200 musical theatre writers.
