The Sam Gold-directed Broadway revival of William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet officially opened October 24 after beginning previews September 26. And the reviews are in.
Playing the Circle in the Square Theatre, the production will continue through February 16, 2025. Emmy winner Kit Connor (Heartstopper) and Golden Globe winner Rachel Zegler (María in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story) star in the revival, which features music by Grammy winner Jack Antonoff and movement by Tony winner Sonya Tayeh.

Press notes for the revival describe the classic tragedy as such: "The youth are fucked. Left to their own devices in their parents’ world of violent ends, an impulsive pair of star-crossed lovers hurtle towards their inescapable fate. The intoxicating high of passion quickly descends into a brutal chaos that can only end one way."
Connor and Zegler are joined by Gabby Beans (Skin of Our Teeth) as Mercutio/The Friar, Tommy Dorfman (13 Reasons Why) as The Nurse/Tybalt, Nihar Duvvuri as Balthazar, Sola Fadiran (Camelot) as Capulet/Lady Capulet, Daniel Bravo Hernández as Abraham, Taheen Modak as Benvolio, Jasai Chase-Owens (The Expanse) as Gregory, and Gían Pérez (Sing Street) as Samson/Paris/Peter. Understudies Missy Malek, Timothy Oh, Susannah Perkins (The Wolves), and Daniel Velez round out the company. Casting is by Taylor Williams.
The production also features scenic design by dots, costume design by Enver Chakartash, lighting design by Isabella Byrd, sound design by Tony winner Cody Spencer, hair, wig, and makeup design by Robert Pickens and Katie Gell, and violence by Drew Leary.
Claire Warden serves as intimacy director, Gigi Buffington serves as voice and text coach, and Michael Sexton and Ayanna Thompson serve as dramaturgy and text consultants. Production stage management is by Rachel Bauder, Juniper Street Productions is the production manager, and 101 Productions, Ltd is the general manager.
