Amas Musical Theatre and the Amas Musical Theatre Lab have announced a set of developmental readings of Falling for Make Believe: The Life and Songs of Lorenz Hart. The readings are set for Monday, January 22 at 6 PM and Tuesday, January 23 at 1 PM and 4:30 PM at Pearl Studios.

The work features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Lorenz Hart, and a book by Mark Saltzman. Jeff Calhoun (NewsiesJekyll & Hyde) will direct. Telling the story of Hart's life—as well as his tortured relationship with songwriting partner Rodgers—the work includes 21 Rodgers and Hart classics, like "The Lady is a Tramp," "Bewitched," and "This Can't Be Love."

The cast for the reading will feature Tony nominee Nikki Crawford (Fat Ham), Claybourne Elder (Company), Ben Fankhauser (Newsies), Nicolas King (Hollywood Arms), Susan Mosher (Hairspray), and Jeff Woodman (Cymbeline).

“Rodgers and Hart were the original odd couple and their partnership lasted over 25 years,” says Donna Trinkoff, Artistic Producer of Amas Musical Theatre. “They made magic together. Lorenz Hart was a conflicted soul, a genius with words that came from a deep well of unhappiness. Falling for Make Believe shows both of these amazing collaborators from behind the curtain.”

The creative team also includes music director Keith Harrison Dworkin, stage manager Thom Gates, and assistant to the author Matt Stolfi.
