Henry Holt will publish the book. A timeline for its release was not announced. It is characterized as "the definitive, comprehensive account of Williams's life."
"Robin Williams was a cultural hero of mine. In the encounters and interactions I was able to share with him, he was always gentle and generous, humane and thoughtful and hilarious," Itzkoff said in a statement announcing the publication.
Williams died Aug. 11 at the age of 63.
Williams starred in a number of theatrical productions, including Mike Nichols’ 1988 Off-Broadway version of Waiting for Godot, co-starring with Steve Martin; and his own one-man show, Robin Williams: Live on Broadway. In 2011 he made his acting debut on Broadway in the title role of Rajiv Joseph’s drama Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo.
