Murder Ballad, which played an acclaimed Off-Broadway run during the 2012-13 season, was conceived by Julia Jordan with book and lyrics by Jordan and music and lyrics by indie rock singer/songwriter Juliana Nash.
The Studio staging, helmed by artistic director David Muse, takes a page from the Off-Broadway run, setting the story within an immersive bar environment. Tony-winning scenic designer Brian MacDevitt has been enlisted to create the set and lighting.
In addition to Dwyer as Sara, the cast also features Tommar Wilson (The Book of Mormon) as Michael, Cole Burden (Les Misérables) as Tom and Anastacia McCleskey (Violet) as the Narrator.
Here's how the musical is billed: "Sara's life is perfect—Upper West Side husband, daughter, and life—until her irresistible past blows back into her life in the form of an old flame, a dangerous passion, and a love triangle headed for ignition."
Murder Ballad will run through May 10.
The production team also includes music director Darren Cohen, set director Andrew Cohen, lighting director Andrew Cissna, costume designer Laree Lentz, sound designer Ryan Rumery and movement director Nancy Bannon.
