Stage and screen star David Oyelowo makes his National Theatre debut in a new production of Shakespeare's Coriolanus, directed by Lyndsey Turner, opening September 24 at the London company's Olivier Theatre after beginning previews September 11. Performances will continue through November 9.
Oyelowo is starring in the title role, joined in the cast by Luke Aquilina, Chereen Buckley, Anushka Chakravarti, Anton Cross, Patrick Elue, Peter Forbes, Ashley Gerlach, Sam Hazeldine, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Kemi-Bo Jacobs, Marcia Lecky, Conor McLeod, Jordan Metcalfe, Pamela Nomvete, Richard Pryal, Jordan Rhys, Oliver Senton, Jo Stone-Fewings, Stephanie Street, and John Vernon. Young Marcius is being played by Kyron Allen, Deniro-Carter Bhola, Cale Cole, and Kaelum Nelson.
The production features set design by Es Devlin, costume design by Annemarie Woods, lighting design by Tim Lutkin, sound design by Tom Gibbons, music by Angus MacRae, video design by Ash J Woodward, and fight direction by Sam Lyon-Behan. Casting is by Bryony Jarvis-Taylor.
Filmed in 2023, the one-night-only event featured Brian Stokes Mitchell, Audra McDonald, Peter Friedman, and more from the Ahrens and Flaherty musical's original cast.
