Corbin Bleu (High School Musical; Kiss Me, Kate) and Danielle Wade (Mean Girls, Wizard of Oz) will head the cast of Goodspeed Musicals' upcoming world premiere of Summer Stock, adapted from the 1950 MGM/Warner Bros. film.
Donna Feore will direct and choreograph the production, which will play the East Haddam, Connecticut, venue July 7–August 27. Bleu will play the role of Joe Ross with Wade as Jane Falbury; additional casting will be announced.
Inspired by the classic Judy Garland-Gene Kelly movie, Summer Stock features a book by Cheri Steinkellner with hits from the American Songbook. The new musical follows the theatrical Gloria, who invites fellow troupers to the family farm with the idea of putting on a show. Her practical sister Jane eventually relents because the farm needs work—and workers.
The production will also have music direction by Adam Souza and music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Tony winner Doug Besterman. Bradley G. Spachman will be the production stage manager. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting's Peter Van Dam.
Summer Stock is produced by special arrangement with VenuWorks Theatricals. Carolyn Rossi Copeland is the executive producer.
