Summer Shorts is currently back at 59E59 Theaters for its 12th season of one acts. The festival consists of two evenings of short plays that are running in repertory at the Off-Broadway venue through September 1.
This year's lineup features six short plays by Robert O’Hara, Abby Rosebrock, Neil LaBute, Eric Lane, Claire Zajdel, and novelist Chris Bohjalian (making his playwriting debut).
In O’Hara's one-act Living Room, a white couple questions the nature of being "White People in a Living Room." The play, also directed by O'Hara, is part of the festival's Series A, which also includes Rosebrock's Kenny's Tavern, directed by Jess Chayes, and Bohjalian's Grounded, directed by Alexander Dinelaris.
Series B features LaBute's short play Sparring Partner, about a longtime flirtation between two co-workers, which comes to a head over the course of a lunchtime game; as well as Lane's play Ibis, directed by Terry Berliner, and Zajdel's The Plot, directed by James Rees.
Summer Shorts is presented by Throughline Artists. To purchase tickets, call Ticket Central at (212) 279-4200 or visit 59e59.org.
