The return engagement of the Olivier-nominated Cruise officially opens August 17 following previews that began August 13 at the West End's Apollo Theatre.
Written and performed by Jack Holden (Ten Per Cent, War Horse), the limited run continues through September 4. Bronagh Lagan (The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Little Women) directs with original music composed and performed live by John Patrick Elliott.
Based on a true story Holden was told while volunteering for Switchboard, the LGBTQ+ listening service, Cruise pays tribute to a generation affected by HIV and AIDS and concerns the true story of what should have been Michael Spencer’s last night on earth.
Cruise was one of the first productions to premiere in the West End when theatres reopened in May 2021. That production was nominated for a 2022 Olivier for Best New Play.
Cruise also has music and sound design by John Patrick Elliott, designs by Nik Corrall, co-design by STUFISH Entertainment Architects, lighting design by Prema Mehta, movement by Sarah Golding, and additional sound design by Max Pappenheim.
Producers are Aria Entertainment and Lambert Jackson produce.
