Casting is complete for Barrington Stage Company's upcoming production of Pearl Cleage’s Blues for an Alabama Sky. Directed by Candis C. Jones (shadow/land), performances are scheduled for July 21-August 5 on BSC’s Boyd-Quinson Stage in Massachusetts.
The cast will feature Brandon Alvión (A Soldier’s Play national tour) as Guy Jacobs, Tsilala Brock (SUFFS) as Angel Allen, DeLeon Dallas (Power Book III: Raising Kanan) as Leland Cunningham, Ryan George (Repertory Theater of St. Louis' The Play That Goes Wrong) as Sam Thomas, and Jasminn Johnson (Ain’t No Mo’) as Delia Patterson; Johnson also starred in the New York premiere of Blues for an Alabama Sky Off-Broadway.
The play is set during the Harlem Renaissance as singer Angel and her chosen family navigate the cultural and social changes in their neighborhood. When a young man from Alabama catches her eye, she must decide if she wants to pursue her dreams with her friends or seek easy comfort with her southerner.
The production will also have scenic design by Sydney Lynne, costume design by Danielle Preston, lighting design by Adam Honoré, sound design by Fabian Obispo, and wig design by Earon Nealey. BSC casting is by McCorkle Casting.
The production stage manager is Hope Villanueva, and the assistant stage manager is Merit Glover.
The Boyd-Quinson Stage currently features the Tony-winning musical Cabaret (through July 8).
