Lincoln Center Theater will present the New York premiere of Candrice Jones' Flex, set to begin performances at Off-Broadway's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater June 23 ahead of a July 20 opening night. LCT Resident Director Lileana Blain-Cruz (The Skin of Our TeethWhite Girl in Danger) will direct.

The new play follows an Arkansas all-girls high school basketball team in 1997 juggling aspirations of going pro in the WNBA and the pressures of being young, Black, and female in rural Arkansas.

The work received its co-world premiere in 2022 via runs at Arkansas' TheatreSquared and Georgia's Theatrical Outfit, and was previously developed at the 2019 Bay Area Playwrights Festival, NNPN's 2020 National Showcase of New Plays, and the 2021 Arkansas New Play Festival.

Full casting and creative team will be announced at a later time.

Flex joins an LCT season that includes Kevin Bunin's The Coast Starlight, currently in previews Off-Broadway and set to open March 13; and Camelot, beginning performances at Broadway's Vivian Beaumont Theater March 9.
