A Contemporary Theatre (A.C.T.) in Seattle, Washington, announced its final casting for its 2019 season opener Romeo + Juliet. Broadway alum Joshua Castille (Deaf West's Spring Awakening) will play Romeo to Gabriella O’Fallon’s Juliet.
Directed by John Langs, the production will integrate American Sign Language (ASL). Sign coach Ellie Savidge, local ASL interpreters, Lang, and members of the cast (including Deaf actors Castille and Howie Seago) have been working on a translation of the text.
The full cast includes Lindsay Evans as Lady Capulet, Seago as Friar Lawrence, Amy Thone as Nurse, Darragh Kennan as Mercutio, Chip Sherman as Benvolio, Reginald A. Jackson as Lord Capulet, Ryan Higgins as Tybalt, Chad Sommerville as Paris, and ensemblists Mikey Flores and Matthew Thomas Moore.
Castille was last seen in ACT’s production of Tribes and 5th Avenue Theatre’s production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, also in Seattle. He made his Broadway debut as Ernst in the 2015 Broadway revival of Spring Awakening.
