Industry News Broadway Women’s Fund Releases 5th Annual Women to Watch List

The Fund—whose advisory board members include Lynn Ahrens, Rachel Chavkin, and more—highlights emerging industry leaders.

Broadway Women’s Fund, Broadway’s first impact investment fund, has revealed its fifth annual Women to Watch on Broadway list, shining a spotlight on the New York theatre industry's emerging female leaders.

The Fund was founded in 2019 by Valerie Novakoff Britten to support women in leadership roles by putting investment dollars behind Broadway shows written, directed, or produced by women. The Women to Watch initiative was inspired by advisory board member Rachel Chavkin's 2019 Tony acceptance speech, in which the Hadestown director shared that gender parity on Broadway "is not a pipeline issue. It is a failure of imagination by a field whose job is to imagine the way the world could be." The Fund hopes the list will help inspire industry members to reach outside of their own networks when hiring, putting more women in top roles.

The women were selected by members of the Fund's leadership and advisory board, whose complete membership includes Lynn Ahrens, Sammi Cannold, Rachel Chavkin, Eric Cornell, Ashley DeSimone, Susan Fleming, Alia Jones Harvey, Margaret Leigh, Theresa Rebeck, Michelle Riley, Jalaina Ross, Jana Shea, Rachel Sussman, Brisa Trinchero, Lisa Vioni, and Paula Wagner. Jamila Ponton Bragg is BWF's manager.
