Prospect Theater Company presents its Spring 2022 Gala May 1 at the Edison Ballroom. Hosting the event are Tony nominee Anika Larsen (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) and Drama Desk winner Jose Llana (The King and I).
Joining Larsen and Llana onstage for performances and special appearances are Tony winner André De Shields, The Phantom of the Opera star Ali Ewoldt, Drama Desk winner Gretchen Cryer, and Drama League nominee Nick Corley, as well as The Acting Company Artistic Director Kent Gash, indie-folk-pop-americana group Bandits on the Run, Adam B. Shapiro, Sherz Aletah, Jovan E’Sean, Jonny Lee Jr., and additional vocalists Liz Casasola, Genesis Adelia Collado, and Michael Protacio.
The evening honors Kenita R. Miller, Lia Chang, Naima Kradjian, and Leonard Majzlin with the inaugural Muse Awards. Miller, a Grammy nominee and Drama Desk winner, is currently performing in the Broadway revival of for colored girls who have considered suicide/when the rainbow is enuf.
Chang is a Chinese-American actor, producer, filmmaker, photo activist, and documentarian. Her Off-Broadway work includes Signature Theatre's revival of Chicago by Sam Shepard. Currently, Kradjian is CEO of Goodwill Theatre, and has worked since 1987 on making a difference in the Greater Binghamton arts community. Finally, Majzlin has worked throughout the industry supporting arts organizations and producing works, as well as working with Joseph Papp as a charter member of the New York Shakespeare Festival.
Music director Andy Roninson leads the band which features Mike Forzano, Sasha Ono, Sunny Sheu, and Brandon Wong as well as jazz artist Anthony Ware in a special appearance.
Members of Propsect's Board Gala Committee includes Jane Abramson, Tira Harpaz, and Jason Ma. Prospect Theater Company focuses on fostering and showcasing new voices in musical theatre, premiering more than 35 musicals in New York City, and has received an OBIE Award grant.
