Regional News Broadway-Aimed Sing Street To Play at Boston's Huntington

The musical sold out shows at New York Theatre Workshop in 2019 and had planned a Broadway transfer before the pandemic.

After a cancelled Broadway run in March 2020, Sing Street returns to the stage in Boston. In association with Sing Street LLC, The Huntington will host the still Broadway-aimed musical August 26 to October 2. Casting will be announced at a later date.

The Boston run will be Sing Street's first step in making a journey (back) to the Main Stem. The new musical, based on the 2016 indie film of the same name by John Carney (Once), first opened Off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop in 2019. Tony Award-winner Enda Walsh (Once) wrote the book and Carney wrote the music and lyrics with Gary ClarkSing Street follows Conor, a sixteen-year old boy who forms a band to impress a girl, as he comes of age in 1982 Dublin during tough times.

As with the New York Theatre Workshop premiere and scrapped Broadway transfer, the Boston production will be helmed by Tony Award winner Rebecca Taichman (Indecent) and choreographed by Tony and Obie Award winner Sonya Tayeh (Moulin Rouge!).

Also reprising their roles on the production's creative team are scenic and costume designer Bob Crowley, music supervisor Martin Lowe (who will share duties with newcomer Peter Gordon), and music director Fred Lassen. Joining the production for the Boston run are lighting designer Natasha Katz, sound designer Peter Hylenski, and video designers Luke Halls and Brad Peterson. Orchestrations are by Clark and Lowe, with additional orchestrations and arrangements by Gordon and Lassen.

Barbara Broccoli, Brian Carmody, Patrick Milling Smith, Michael Wilson, Orin Wolf, and Frederick Zollo are the Broadway producers, in association with Sing Street LLC. Executive Producers are Patrick Daly and Alecia Parker. Casting is by Tara Rubin Casting, and general management is by 321 Theatrical Management.
