As the world celebrates the centennial of composer Leonard Bernstein with a two-year, international slate of programming from myriad performing arts organizations, Hollywood is also placing the spotlight on the man behind such works as West Side Story and Candide.

Tony and Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper will direct and star in the biopic Bernstein, reports Deadline; he is also at work on the script with Oscar winner Josh Singer (Spotlight).
The news of the Paramount Pictures and Amblin project arrives one week after the announcement of a similar biopic, The American, led by Jake Gyllenhaal and produced and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga.
