The York Theatre Company will present the developmental reading of Bordello The Musical later this month.

Featuring a book by Barbara Bellman and Joan Ross Sorkin, music by Emiliano Messiez, and lyrics by Bellman, the invitation-only reading will be held February 29 and March 1 as a part of The York Theatre Company’s Developmental Reading Series.

Will Pomerantz will direct the readings, with music direction by Steven Gross. General management will be provided by Hillel Friedman from Evan Bernadin Productions. The executive producer is Rashad Chambers, and the stage manager will be Michael Wizorek.

Set in 1920s Buenos Aires, Bordello is inspired Raquel Liberman, a Polish immigrant who was forced into prostitution after the sudden death of her husband shortly after she and her family immigrated to Argentina. After four years of captivity in an international sex-trafficking ring, a false second marriage, and a downpour of hate and shame, her fight to achieve justice for everyone the ring had harmed comes to fruition.

Featuring a musical theatre score that incorporates tango, klezmer, and other sounds of the period, the reading will star Dana Aber, Harrison Bryan, Emily Brockway, Ellie Biron, Alison Cimmet, Omar Cepero-Lopez, Cicily Daniels, Ryan Duncan, Jamie LaVerdiere, Jillian Louis, Benjamin Magnuson, Samantha Massell, Shereen Pimentel, Cheryl Stern, Pablo Torres, and Eric Van Tielen.
