Massachusetts' Barrington Stage Company has revealed its complete upcoming 30th anniversary season, which, as previously announced, will include new stagings of La Cage aux Folles and Next to Normal.
Newly joining the lineup on the company's Boyd-Quinson Stage is Marc Camoletti's classic French sex farce Boeing-Boeing, about a bachelor simultaneously dating three flight attendants with conflicting schedules. Everything goes swimmingly—until weather and a new, faster plane design suddenly leave him juggling all three at once. The work premiered in 1960, coming to Broadway in an English translation (by Beverley Cross and Francis Evans) in 1965 and a Tony-winning revival in 2008.
Barrington's production, running July 17-August 3 and opening July 21, will be directed by former artistic director Julianne Boyd with a cast of the company's associate artists, including Debra Jo Rupp (That '70s Show, Dr. Ruth), Mark H. Dold (Faith Healer), and Christopher Innvar (The Importance of Being Earnest). Additional casting is to be announced.
The theatre has also released performance dates for the previously announced productions of La Cage aux Folles and Next to Normal. The former, featuring a book by Harvey Fierstein and music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, will perform June 11-July 6 with opening night set for June 16. Mike Donahue is directing. The Pulitzer-winning Next to Normal will close the season, running August 13-September 8 and opening August 17. Directed by Alan Paul and featuring choreography by Eamon Foley, the staging is a co-production with Washington, D.C.'s Round House Theatre, where the production premiered. The musical features a book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and music by Tom Kitt.
The theatre's St. Germain Stage season will kick off June 25 with the regional premiere of Ben Power's A Tender Thing, officially opening June 28 and continuing through July 20. The work, which imagines that Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet did not die as teenagers and lived into old age, was first staged by Royal Shakespeare Company. Barrington's production will be directed by Alan Paul.
Next up will be a world premiere for Mark St. Germain's Forgiveness, an interactive new work that will invite audiences to watch a convicted criminal plead his case for forgiveness and decide if they're worthy. Ron Lagomarsino is directing, with performances running July 30-August 25. Opening night is August 3.
Closing out the St. Germain season will be a regional premiere for Eboni Booth's Primary Trust, centered on a 38-year-old who suddenly finds himself in a new job at a bank after a sudden layoff. Performances will run September 18-October 13, with opening night set for September 21.
Season tickets are currently available, with single tickets scheduled to go on sale in March.
