Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, which concluded Ogunquit Playhouse's 2022 season, returns to their 2023 season in a special encore engagement beginning May 11. The production will play a five-week run through June 10, 2023.
Casting for the return engagement includes Sarah Bockel as Carole King, Matthew Amira as Gerry Goffin, Taylor Aronson as Cynthia Weil, Ryan Farnsworth as Barry Mann, Suzanne Grodner as Genie Klein, Matt Loehr as Don Kirshner, D'Marreon Alexander as The Drifers/Ensemble, Tyler Michael Breeding as a swing, Briana Brooks as Lucille/The Shirelles/Ensemble, Anthony Cataldo as Nick/Low Righteous Brother, and J. Daughtry as The Drifters/Ensemble.
Featuring a book by Douglas McGrath, the musical tells the real-life story of Carole King's journey to rock 'n' roll fame. Popular hits featured in the musical include "You’ve Got a Friend," "One Fine Day," "Up on the Roof," "You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling," "Will You Love Me Tomorrow," and "Natural Woman." The original Broadway cast recording, available on Ghostlight Records, was the 2015 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Theater Album.
The production is a semi-replica of the original Broadway production, featuring the original set and costume designs. The run includes choreography by Joyce Chittick, music direction by Nick Williams, scenic design by Derek McLane, costume design by Alejo Vietti, lighting design by Richard Latta, sound design by Kevin Heard, and wig design by Roxanne De Luna.
