Broadway News Anthony Edwards and Aria Shahghasemi Join Cast of Broadway Bow of Prayer for the French Republic

Manhattan Theatre Club is again producing Joshua Harmon's Drama Desk-winning work following its world premiere Off-Broadway last year.

When Joshua Harmon's Prayer for the French Republic arrives on Broadway later this season, many of the cast members from last year's Off-Broadway world premiere at New York City Center Stage I will return.

Reprising their performances will be Betsy Aidem (Leopoldstadt), Lucille Lortel and Drama Desk winner Francis Benhamou, Ari BrandMolly Ranson, and Nancy Robinette  They will be joined by new company members Emmy nominee Anthony Edwards (ER, Top Gun) and Aria Shahghasemi (Legacies) with additional casting to be announced.

Again produced by Manhattan Theatre Club and directed by Tony winner David Cromer, previews will begin at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre December 19 prior to an official opening January 9, 2024.

The play begins in 1944 with a Jewish couple awaiting news of their missing family, and follows five generations of a French Jewish family in its examination of history, home, and the effects of an ancient hatred. The Off-Broadway run won 2022 Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for Best Off-Broadway Play.

"Joshua Harmon tells a powerful story about facing adversity with grit, humor, and courage," said MTC Artistic Director Lynne Meadow in an earlier statement. "I’m so proud that MTC is producing the Broadway premiere of this moving, brilliant, and timely play."
