The soundtrack to Annie Live!, NBC’s broadcast of the hit Broadway show, is available on CD as of January 21. The album follows the release of the live TV musical on blu-ray and DVD January 18, and the soundtrack’s digital release December 3, 2021. Annie Live! is also available to stream on Peacock.
Grammy and Tony winner Stephen Oremus produced the album alongside Harry Connick, Jr. Oremus also headed the music department for Annie Live! as the broadcast's music supervisor and orchestrator. Scott M. Riesett served as associate producer on the album, which was recorded by Ian Kagey and mixed by Derik Lee and Tracey Freeman.
Annie premiered on Broadway in 1977, featuring a score by Charles Strouse and Martin Charnin and a book by Thomas Meehan. Based on the Depression-era newspaper comic series, the musical centers on its plucky title character and her journey from orphanage to the opulent Warbucks mansion.
The television musical originally aired December 2, 2021, to an audience of more than 5 million. Lear deBessonett and Alex Rudzinski co-directed the production, which had choreography by Sergio Trujillo, costumes by Emilio Sosa, and production design by Jason Sherwood. Celina Smith starred as the titular orphan in a cast that included Taraji P. Henson as Miss Hannigan, Nicole Scherzinger as Grace, Tituss Burgess as Rooster, Megan Hilty as Lily St. Regis, and Harry Connick, Jr., as Daddy Warbucks.
