My AAPI Broadway Story: Breaking Barriers, an evening spotlighting Asian American and Pacific Islander actors, is presented March 14 at 6 PM in the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
Lainie Sakakura (Fosse, The King and I), who conceived and directs the event, is scheduled to speak with Tony recipient Baayork Lee (A Chorus Line, Seesaw), Ann Harada (Cinderella, Avenue Q), Telly Leung (Aladdin, In Transit), Jose Llana (Rent, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), and JoAnn M. Hunter (School of Rock, Jerome Robbins’ Broadway).
The panel will share stories of how they broke the mold, pushed their way into non-traditional casting, and continue to work as artists to create space for future generations.
Attendees can also expect live performances and archival footage.
The Library encourages mask wearing in all public spaces.
