The full Broadway cast of the 2018 Tony-winning revival of Tony Kushner’s Angels in America: A Gay Fantasia on National Themes can be heard on an audiobook adaptation—the first time the Pulitzer Prize-winning masterwork is available in the format—beginning May 14. Penguin Random House Audio has released the recording digitally and on CD.

“I’ve always been a lucky playwright (kinehora kinehora pooh pooh pooh), never more so than when Marianne Elliott and her cast of monumentally brilliant and brave actors brought Angels in America to London’s National Theatre and then to Broadway,” Kushner said in an earlier statement. “Theatre vanishes once the last performance ends, so I count it another stroke of great good fortune that Penguin Random House Audio has transformed this splendid stage production into an experience that’s dramatic and also, in the audiobook’s theatre of human voices, novelistic in its intimacy. Listening to it has been for me a rediscovery of the plays.”

Directed by Tony winner Elliott (War Horse), the new staging opened to critical acclaim in May 2017 at the National Theatre, where it became the fastest-selling production in the theatre's history, and subsequently to rave reviews on Broadway in March 2018. Earning 11 Tony Award nominations, it set a record for most-nominated play, ultimately winning three: Best Revival and wins for stars Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane.

In addition to Lane as Roy Cohn and Garfield as Prior Walter, the recording cast of Angels in America features Denise Gough as Harper Pitt, Emmy Award nominee Lee Pace as Joe Pitt, James McArdle as Louis Ironson, Susan Brown as Hannah Pitt, Beth Malone as the Angel, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett as Belize.

Stage and screen stars Edie Falco and Bobby Cannavale provide additional narration for the recording, which also includes sound designer Adrian Sutton’s original score.

Lane can currently be seen on Broadway in Taylor Mac's new comedy Gary: A Sequel to Titus Andronicus.
