Just in time for Halloween, Broadway Podcast Network is going full spooky with Dracula, the Podcastula, launching October 5. The weekly series, hosted by Andrew Keenan-Bolger, goes behind the scenes of Off-Broadway's Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors, currently running (and co-starring Keenan-Bolger) at New World Stages.

"As soon as I started working professionally, I tried to find ways to share my behind-the-scenes adventures with a wider audience," says Keenan-Bolger. "Whether it be blogging, filming backstage videos for YouTube, or creating theatre-centric hashtags and challenges on Twitter and Instagram, I’ve always understood that there is tremendous power in including our fans in the process of mounting a show. I’m so excited to be teaming up with Broadway Podcast Network and venturing into a new medium that will bring Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors closer to our audience. With Dracula, the Podcastula, I want to provide a frank and funny peek behind the curtain. ... Each episode of Dracula, the Podcastula is packed with tales of on-stage mishaps, spooky theatrical stories, and hilarious games and pranks."

Keenan-Bolger, who stars as Harker in the Off-Broadway farce, developed the podcast with Broadway Podcast Network co-founder and CTO Alan Seales. The series is a first-of-its-kind for a NYC theatrical production.

"All of my favorite TV shows have companion podcasts which feature exciting, entertaining, and transparent content that accompany each episode," says Seales. "It makes sense that Broadway shows should have companion podcasts too. Given Broadway Podcast Network’s deep knowledge of podcasting, multimedia production, and the Broadway space at large, we are perfectly poised to bring this new type of podcast to theatre fans all over the world."

Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen's Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors began previews Off-Broadway at New World Stages September 4 and officially opened September 18. The limited 18-week run will continue through January 7, 2024. Read reviews here.

Along with Keenan-Bolger, the five-person company includes Jordan Boatman (Medea), Arnie Burton (The 39 Steps), James Daly (Letterkenny), and Ellen Harvey (How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying).

Described as "lightning fast," the work reimagines Bram Stoker's classic vampire tale, recasting Dracula as a pansexual Gen-Z Count in the midst of an existential crisis.

Greenberg directs the Off-Broadway production after staging earlier runs at Maltz Jupiter Theatre in Florida, Capital Repertory Theatre in Albany, and Segal Centre for Performing Arts in Montreal. The farce also became a podcast radio play in May 2020, with a cast including Christopher Sieber, Laura Benanti, and John Stamos.

The NYC premiere is not a replica of earlier stagings. The production features scenic design by Tijana Bjelajac, costume design by Tristan Raines, lighting design by Rob Denton, sound design by Victoria Deiorio, and wig and hair design by Ashley Rae Callahan. Morgan Holbrook is the production stage manager, and casting is by JZ Casting.

Drew & Dane Productions is producing the Off-Broadway bow, with Dori Berinstein serving as executive producer.
